Markbass amps are among the most popular bass amps on the planet. Many pros have them, many amateurs want one too.

And now they are even being used on stage by bands that are not specifically rock or metal — but rather indie rock, pop or something else altogether. Why? Because Markbass amps sound great and give you a lot of watts for only a few bucks.

For example the markbass combo, the little 120T, and it has been with me for more than five years now. I use it to practice at home and also sometimes to record tracks when I’m in a studio. It’s surprisingly loud and powerful — yet not too big or heavy. Best of all though: The price is very reasonable. I also love the great tone of this little thing!

Recently, I gave it to my bass student Elisa so that she could practice more at home since her family just moved to another apartment. She was thrilled and told me how much she likes the amp. So then I thought about reviewing it for GuitarWorld.com.

The markbass combo comes in several different wattage versions: the Mini CMD 121, which has 100 watts of power; the Regular CMD 151, which has 150 watts; and the Compact CMD 251, with 250 watts. Although you can use these combos for any kind of music — jazz, blues or metal — I think they work particularly well for rock and metal. They tend to be very punchy so you get more of a guitar tone than you would with, say, a Fender bass amp. That might not always be the sound you want — but it’s nice to have such an option available.

And I doubt that anyone ever had any issues with the sound of these amps — they are really, really good.

I’m not quite sure what else I can tell you about them. Perhaps it’s enough to say that if you give them markbass amps an for your next gig, people will ask you where you got them and how much they cost.
