FAQ’s
What is the best age to start music lessons for kids?
All students are different and some are ready to play before others. There really isn’t a best age for kids to start music lessons, but for most kids under the age of 7 generally don’t have the patience to participate in structured music lessons. But it really does come down to the individual.
Should you have your own instruments or does the school provide them?
Students who are learning guitar, ukulele, bass, violin and banjo need to provide their own instruments for their lessons. Teachers will have access to their own instruments as well as supplementary items such as amps to use as part of the lessons. Students learning piano or drums, will have use of the lesson equipment supplied by Music Specialists Maitland. Music Specialists Maitland does sell beginner instrument packs, so if you need further advice and support regarding purchasing an instrument for lessons, please call 02 4933 0633 or speak to someone in store.
How long until the student is good at playing their instrument of choice?
Each student learns differently and at a different pace. It is difficult to give a time frame on achievements when playing a musical instrument as this will look different for every single musician. Music Specialists Maitland looks at the bigger picture when it comes to establishing a long and fulfilling relationship with music and playing an instrument for our students. We offer student focussed lessons, whatever that looks like. We will work with the student on their priorities and be guided on what makes them passionate about music and their instrument of choice. Each student’s learning experience is different and at Music Specialists Maitland our focus is on individual empowerment.
