This is John Young with the disc jockey
news today we’re looking at the dark
matter series speakers here from Peavy
on top we’ve got the 112 and then on the
bottom we’ve got a 15 inch subwoofer the
115 sub and we’re going to be doing this
in multiple video so there will be a
video that has the look at the top and
the functionality then we’re going to
looking at the subwoofer and then we’re
going to put the two together in a third
video and kind of listen to it and give
you guys an idea what they sound like so
let’s check this out this is video
number two we’re going to look at the
subwoofer this is the 115 sub from the
dark matter series of BB so this is the
form factor of the 115 sub here from
Peavy in the dark matter series very
nice very narrow it’s a little bit
taller but it’s not quite as wide so
it’s really easy to get your arms
wrapped around this and the handles are
up just a little bit here again because
of a taller form vector making it a lot
easier to lift and maneuver around if
you are a smaller statured person the
dark matter series here the 112 top and
115 sub definitely something to check
out on the back here we have our input
we’ve got our through we’ve got
high-pass which basically means that it
goes through the crossover here the
crossover has control over what it’s
sending to the high-pass or we can come
down to the bottom and come out full
range depending upon what configuration
what we’re wanting to do you would use
one or the other level controls what’s
going into the subwoofer we can switch
our polarity lip the ground as kind of
traditional things here’s a couple of
cool things is that we can control that
crossover and we can control it anywhere
from 92 what is it 150 I believe so we
can really adjust that crossover as
needed depending upon I’m on two
subwoofers what you’re using for tops
what brand of tops you can use this with
different tops and you can control the
crossover point and then we have the
cosmos see right here maybe zoom in a
little bit more of that that is a bass
enhanced feature

Now what we have set up
right now with this is we’ve got our
settings as I use these what I was doing
the full volume audio test so you’ll see
that I’m using I’m got my levels at 12
o’clock I’ve got my crossover point
goodness what are we going to call that
maybe 100 and
somewhere maybe 120 something in that
ballpark kid I’m not exactly sure we
could figure I suppose but yeah whatever
and then I have the cosmos see set in
which basically what that does is that’s
an enhancement of a kind of a digital
enhancement of the base for like a
better way to describe it I think of it
as a little bit of extra EQ in going on
to your base but it extends those base
frequencies a little bit to the point
that it sounds much richer a much fuller
base but yet it isn’t taxing of the
amplifier and causing issues where
you’re going to have the amplifier
running out of boom as you’re getting
more base so it was really kind of cool
we ran the subwoofer up to the point
where I was getting the red little LED
to flicker here telling me that hey
you’re pushing too hard it changes from
green to red so I backed it off just a
hair bit so I was right at that that
point where I could get that to to
flicker if I pushed harder then I
decided to turn the cosmos up and see if
it was going to cause that to be you
know tripping a little quicker it didn’t
do it so they’ve really put some thought
into how that all works they do warn you
though if you turn this up this
enhancement feature will make some songs
sound to money so they recommend it’s
kind of like salt it’s better to use
just a little bit than to use too much
so think of it that way anyway the back
of it built-in amplifier everything’s
really nice and easy you’ve got your
speaker pole mount it will use a
traditional speaker pole or the one that
comes with it is it has the thread on it
so you can thread it on there and it’s
really tight and secure which is really
kind of a cool cool aspect to it I
really like the ability the size and
such and what it can do for a 15 inch
subwoofer it has a lot of power it’s not
going to give you a teen dance in a
large gymnasium bass this is for someone
who’s wanting a smaller sound system to
go out and be able to do weddings and
two weddings very very well
one thing you might be hearing when
you’re not hearing me talk is you’re
hearing a little bit of a fan the fan on
PV speakers is noticeable if special if
you’re behind like we are right now let
me just get moving a little closer
you
that of course is the fat they’re
running full time when they’re on
they’re not heat sensitive where they’re
going to kick in and kick out on one
hand that’s a great feature because you
know the fan is working and it’s working
to keep your your amplifier cool meaning
it’s going to last longer on the other
side you know if you don’t if you’re in
a really quiet situation that could be
audible especially if you’re behind the
speaker but once you put a little music
hood even at low dinner music volumes
and we’re infront of the speaker’s you
can’t hear the fans whatsoever so
they’re there
it’s a pv thing and it’s got its good
and bad we’ll just leave it at that
we’ll put a link in the description
below so you can check this out but this
is the dark matter this is the 15 inch
subwoofer for Pb the 115 sub
