What is a metronome?

The metronome is a very simple device that assists musicians in learning to play a piece of music at a specific tempo. The name itself, metronome, means “to measure time.”
In addition, the word comes from Greek and translates literally as “measurer”. In the past 200 years, the device has evolved from large pendulum-driven devices to digital gadgets that fit in the palm of your hand. They come in a variety of shapes, styles and sounds.

How to use a metronome?

A metronome usually has two knobs: one to adjust the tempo and another to change the volume of clicks. The first step is learning how to adjust the speed or tempo.
The device gives a visual or audible signal at specific increments and sounds that mark time in equal beats per minute (BPM). The volume knob adjusts the sound the metronome makes when marking time.
