What is a baritone ukulele?

The baritone ukulele (or simply ‘baritone’) is a member of the ukulele family. It gets its name from its place in pitch between the soprano and tenor ukes – it’s tuned one octave below them at about G, B flat, E flat, making it roughly equivalent to the 4th, 5th and 6th strings of a guitar.

How long is a baritone ukulele?

The standard size baritone is about 21 inches long. A baritone ukulele is also the same as a guitar, so if you want to leave it in its bag when you’re moving, that should be fine. Looking for a solid body electric baritone ukulele? We have them right here at Music Specialists with our best price guarantee.

How heavy is a baritone ukulele?

Because it’s tuned an octave lower than the soprano and tenor ukes, the baritone uke’s strings need to be a little thicker and sturdier than those of the other two. They’re about 0.13mm thick compared to 0.09m on the soprano and 0.08mm on the tenor (although these figures can vary).

What size baritone ukulele should I get?

The right size for you depends on your height, body shape, and comfortable holding an instrument in front of you while playing it.

It’s worth taking someone who plays the ukulele along when trying lots of instruments to help give their opinion – they’ll probably know when they find the right one.

The size of the ukulele is often abbreviated to ‘S/M/L,’ where S means small, M means medium and L means large. The sizes relate roughly to height: S – 5ft-5ft 6in; M – 5ft 6in-6ft; L – 6ft-6ft 6in+.

How to tune a baritone ukulele?

The baritone ukulele is tuned like a guitar in 4ths – G, B flat, E flat, A.
That’s one octave below the soprano and tenor ukes in D, G, C, E.
To tune the strings to this pitch, you need to use an electronic tuner or tuning fork.
