The Mooer Black Truck Multi Effects Guitar Pedal analog modules are complemented well by a multi-modulation pedal and a digital ambience engine, simply named SPACE, which consists of a high-quality digital delay and a stereo reverb.
Both of these digital modules are fully controllable by the dedicated tap tempo control footswitch. When used in conjunction with the integrated loop switcher, Mooer Black Truck can very easily be programmed to provide one step presets.
Key Features:
6 effects pedals built into 1 simple unit: Compressor, Overdrive, Distortion, EQ, modulation, Delay/Reverb
Full-featured controls for each effect
Built-in precision guitar tuner
Tap tempo synchronization
Integrated effects loop for connecting external pedals or 4 cable method connection with an amplifier
Stereo outputs
Dedicated direct output with speaker simulation and an independent volume
control for connection to a mixing desk, computer or headphones
Okay, I haven’t tried anything by Mooer in a good while
Today I’m trying out the Black Truck.
and when I first heard about it, I was like: ‘Okay, yeah, I have no idea what it is’
But now, when I unpacked it, it makes all the sense
The Mooer Black Truck has basically designed a portable solution for a small gigging rig.
It’s not a super-advanced modeller like the GE 200. This is a 6-module analog and digital effect pedal.
You have 6 different effects
first, you have a compressor, you have an overdrive, high-gain amp distortion …
5-band equalizer
Modulation, that’s phaser, tremolo, flanger
and then we have space
which is basically delay or reverb, or delay and reverb
Here, at the end here, we have a tuner
So it’s a full rig that you can hook up to an FX loop of an amplifier
or go direct to an audio interface, mixing desk, whatever you fancy
Now, this might not seem overly impressive to you
but it’s when you look at the back of this thing and see that it has an FX loop
it all makes sense, meaning that you can hook in more pedals to this thing
or use it with your amplifier with the 4 cable method
If you do not know what the for cable method is, just quickly explaining …
It’s like you basically have a rig that connects both in front of the amplifier
as well as the FX loop at the back of the amplifier
Meaning you have complete control over what’s happening in front of your preamplifier and after …
in the FX loop.
As I said, it’s not a super-advanced multi-effect
but to be honest, I think about 95% of guitar players out there
probably do not need anything else outside of what the Black Truck is offering here
I also forgot to mention, but there’s a stereo output here
And you also have a headphone output
where you have a cab simulation going
So you can hook it up wherever you want, to an audio interface/ headphones, and it will sound good … I guess.
And for this demo, I’m using a Solar A1.6 Artist straight into the Black Truck and this 5150
and this is hooked up with the 4 cable method
So my guitar goes into the input of the Black Truck
and from here I have a send into the input of the amplifier
So I can use the EQ, the high-gain, the overdrive and the compressor in front of the preamplifier
Just like you would, you know?
and then you hook it back from the FX loop back in here and from this back into the amp
That might sound very advanced, but it’s not really
That means that you have the modulation effects and the delay and reverb in the FX loop
just as it should be, okay?
This is the clean channel of the-
5150
Without anything engaged and then let’s just go through the effects real quick.
So, you have the compressor
Very nice.
So, without the compressor.
With the compressor.
Picking my nose a little … Very nice.
And then we have the overdrive, which I have set up like I would a TS9 Tube Screamer
with the volume at max, tone at somewhere here, maybe, and gain at zero
So, it’s basically like a clean boost. So, let’s put down the gain a little.
My whole room is shaking.
Awesome, very nice.
Then we get to the high-gain distortion block or module. So …
So you have volume, tone and tweak. So, let’s try it out.
Tweak.
Oh, so I guess tweak is basically a little amp character, I would say because it sounds a little tighter here
Oh, you have a gate. Ah, gate on and off.
Gain.
Mid.
So, basically a mid-scoop.
Ok, let’s try it with the overdrive because that’s what we do in metal
you put overdrive in front of distortion, okay?
Turn up the gain, I want a clean boost on this, so …
Sounds good, I must say. Shit, yeah.
Then after this, we have an EQ. And with the EQ here …
Right now it’s set to post, which means it’s effective after the high-gain distortion,
but you can put it to pre as well
This means you have even more shaping possibilities before the distortion
so you can actually use this, I guess, as a boost into the high-gain distortion.
That’s djent for you.
If you use it in the post you can shape the EQ of the distortion basically
so you have a lot of options here actually
Oh, that’s so loud.
Okay, let’s go to the modulation effects and this …
All of these that I’ve talked about already, EQ, high gain, overdrive and compressor
works before the preamplifier, okay?
Now we’re getting to the section that is connected to the FX loop, which is the modulation and space, so …
Colour.
Nice
Yeah, I like this.
Ok, let’s try the phaser, that was the flanger by the way.
Ehm, tremolo.
Oh.
For whenever you want to make some soundtrack for a Pulp Fiction movie
Or no. Kill Bill, it’s Kill Bill, I think.
Nice, okay.
Nice, okay. Space.
Space … yeah.
Okay, so, delay.
Nice.
Delay and reverb.
There it is.
Spacey.
Amazing. All these individual modules can be saved in presets.
So, say I want just to have a high-gain sound with, you know, overdrive and high gain
I just save this
by holding this little button like this
and it’s saved and then if I go to a preset mode, I have it here
Then I want something else. Maybe this. What’s this? Clean?
Maybe it’s just a little too loud that little bitch.
Then on this preset
So you can set … Well, that’s a weird reverb for a lead tone, but who cares?
So you can set this however you want with presets. It’s pretty cool, I must say.
So, you don’t really need anything more than this little pedalboard right here
So, you can store presets, but you can also keep this pedal in a live mode
which is basically just turning on and off the different modules like this, okay?
So this is one application where you can use the 4-cable method with this built-in distortion right there, but …
Say you want to use the amplifier distortion, you know, use the compressor and the overdrive and all that. Easy.
Let’s try that. So let’s go to the … another channel.
Ooh, there it is. Sorry. So now we’re using the distortion of the amplifier
Let’s turn on the overdrive.
It’s too early in the morning for soloing, but that lead keeps on going forever.
So, I mean, depending on whatever situation you’re in …
you know, if you really want to use the distortion of your amplifier …
This works so well together.
I’m thinking in my perspective …
You know, I fly around for gigs a lot, we do a lot of festivals
And I think this is a very neat and small little package for me to bring around.
You know, and if … depending on what amplifier there is as a backline at the festival
I can use this either with the high gain distortion
or using just the overdrive, EQ modulation and space
for my full rig and the different tones that I use with The Haunted, for instance.
So, yeah. It’s … Wow. Shit.
Like so many times before Mooer has really hit the nail on the head with this thing.
I mean the Black Truck is an excellent companion
for the gigging musician who either wants a small rig for going direct to a mixing board
or the musician that already has a great sounding amplifier
and just wants the best type of companion to it
without, you know, having a big ass pedalboard or anything like that
Again Mooer kinda, you know … blows my mind a little bit
because they really … it’s like they read my mind a little bit, or maybe they’re watching my videos too much.
They’re listening to what I’m asking for.
So, that’s a good thing maybe.
But yeah, this is a great little thing right here. It’s …
Yeah … shit.
Shit.
Ass.
